In view of the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the district administration today constituted four teams to check the functioning of CCTV cameras in various school buses.
Ashika Jain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), said the teams has been constituted under the chairmanship of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jagdeep Sehgal, Sukhvinder Kumar from the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), the District Education Officer and Superintendent of Police (traffic).
Jain said the teams would check various school buses at random for CCTV and submit their report in 10 days. She said school buses will also be checked for other violations as per the RTA norms. This report will be submitted to the High Court, she added.
Recently, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) had challaned 26 buses in 48 hours for playing loud music and lewd songs prompting guns and drugs culture. The drive would continue, said Sukhvinder Kumar.
RTA Sukhwinder Kumar said it was an offense to play loud music or using pressure horns and lewd songs in buses. He said all private players play loud music in buses. “Buses with loud and pressure horns have also been challaned. The drive will continue in future also,” he said.
