A day after former MLA Sarabjeet Makkar used abusive language against SAD district (urban) president Kulwant Singh Manan at the delegates’ meeting at Sodal gurdwara, as many as 68 SAD leaders, including five councillors, seven former councillors, 12 circle presidents, SC wing, BC wing and Istri Akali Dal leaders, have come together seeking action against Makkar from the party high command.

The 68 leaders, who met today, decided to even offer their resignations if the party fails to take a decision in the matter tomorrow at a meeting scheduled again at the same venue at 4 pm.

Senior leaders, including Istri Akali Dal president Jagir Kaur, former minister Tota Singh, MLAs Gurpartap Wadala and Pawan Tinu, will be present in the meeting. The SAD leaders have been maintaining that since the entire incident happened in front of SAD leader Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, there was no doubt left about it. Grewal even reportedly snubbed Makkar after the incident.

While the delegates’ meeting went normally, Makkar is learnt to have used rough language against Manan when all seniors got together at the gurdwara manager’s room for a separate discussion. The former reportedly got infuriated upon not getting a proper seat. Mahinder Kaur Josh, former CPS, who too was present at the meeting, chose to jump off tables to escape from the situation.

Grewal said: “It certainly was an undesirable action on the part of Makkar. I will convey the entire issue to party chief Sukhbir Badal. Taking action in the matter will be his decision.”

President of the Istri wing of Jalandhar, Parminder Pannu, said: “We will surely seek disciplinary action against Makkar tomorrow. The incident has put SAD in a bad light.”

Councillor Tamanreet Kaur too maintained: “We are mulling on giving our resignations if the party does not take action against him.”
