The 8th edition of the Khushwant Singh Literary Festival got under way at the historic Kasauli Club near here on Friday.

BN Goswamy, a historian and art critic, was the first to speak with his critical appreciation at a session on ‘Gods and Demons in Indian Art’ where he dwelt on various historical characters.

The fest which started in 2012, is the lone literary festival to be held in Himachal and is held to commemorate noted author and journalist Khushwant Singh, who had penned several books at his summer house here.

The mood for the annual event was set by his son and journalist Rahul Singh, who after a brief introductory note about his father, invited Goswami to begin the session.

Rahul threw light on his father’s much-admired sense of humour as well as outrageousness and an immense capacity to laugh at himself, recalling humorous incidents which sent the audience into peals of laughter.

An impressive audience has lined up to attend the fest despite the chill in the air.
