After 2-day meet, BJP relieves three of party duties

Following a two-day meeting of BJP functionaries in Gurugram, the party has relieved state vice-president Arvind Yadav, state secretary Jawahar Saini and Dharampal Sharma of organisational duties. The state BJP contemplated and reviewed reasons behind its unexpectedly poor performance in the recent Assembly elections in the state. Other than underestimating opposition parties, discontent among party workers and internal sabotage by party veterans were cited as the key reasons.

State BJP chief Subhash Barala, who addressed the media, refrained from elaborating on the reasons. Sources claimed that internal sabotage led to the unexpected results.

Arvind was one of the key ticket contenders from Rewari. He had publicly expressed displeasure over being replaced by Rao Inderjit Singh loyalist Sunil Yadav.

Senior party leaders claimed that the verbal attack by him and his supporters on Inderjit during a meeting on October 10 led to his removal from the post of vice-president. The incumbent MLAs who were denied the party ticket had openly blamed wrong selection of candidates from Rewari and Badshahpur as the key reasons for the loss on these seats.

“Our vote percentage increased by 3.5 and more than 7 lakh people joined the party. Some issues were discussed with party workers and disciplinary action would be taken against those found to have conspired against the party,” Barala said.
