Jalandhar, January 25
The Jalandhar Police Commissionerate have made elaborate arrangements to ensure foolproof security during the Republic Day celebrations tomorrow at the local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium.
Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar today finalised the security arrangements for the function at the venue. He said the district police had made elaborate security arrangements in the city.
Bhullar said security had already been beefed up and the entire area around the venue had been cordoned off by the police.
The Commissioner of Police said over 1,500 security personnel would be deployed in the stadium on the Republic Day and senior officials would ensure security arrangements right before the scheduled arrival of the chief guest.
He said CCTV cameras had been installed at the venue for keeping a regular check in and around the stadium to check any sort of anti-social activity.
He said: “We have been allotted additional forces for day and night postings at the stadium and police personnel are frequently raiding all hotels, restaurants and lodgings to make sure that no suspicious element enters the city. A large number of police personnel have been deployed on the outskirts of the city and separate checkpoints have been set up at all entry and exit points.
The Commissioner of Police said a round-the-clock vigil was being kept for which various patrolling parties of police officials had also been deployed. Senior officers had been instructed to conduct night domination in the city to keep an eye on the law and order situation.
He said a control room had been set up at the stadium by them to regularly monitor the situation and regular anti-sabotage checking was being done in and around the stadium, besides deployment of firefighting and medical teams.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, along with other officers, also visited the stadium to take stock of the security arrangements at the ground level. He also passed on necessary directions to the officials for the smooth conduct of the event. Deputy Commissioner of Police Arun Saini was among those others present.
