Bathinda, February 21
Members of the Samvidhan Bachao Manch have announced to launch an ‘all-woman’ statewide agitation to express their resentment against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) on International Women’s Day (March 8). The decision was taken during a meeting at Mansa district as indefinite protest of the umbrella organisation (comprised of various mass organisations in the region) entered its 10th day at Mansa on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, Jasvir Kaur, state council member of the Pragtisheel Istri Sabha said, “Demanding revocation of new controversial law, we will hold a massive demonstration against the Central Government on International Women’s Day. Women of the state would extend their full support for the struggle against the new law. Until the new law was not revoked, we would also continue our agitation on the similar pattern being followed at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi. We have been conducting meetings to make it a successful demonstration”.
Members of Budha Dal also extended their full support and announced that they would have joined the indefinite agitation with Samvidhan Bachao Manch and continue to do so until the new law was revoked. Reportedly, a massive statewide protest rally has been scheduled by the manch on February 25, where scores of members from various mass organisations are expected to participate.
Bhagwant Singh, state president of the Mazdoor Mukti Morcha said, “To make February 25 rally successful, we have been conducting meetings to mobilise support for the agitation and results so far have exceeded our expectations as a large number of people from the region, including youngsters have been showing keen interest to be part of the rally.”
