Mohali, March 25

As curfew was imposed in Punjab, several people from other regions find themselves stuck in Mohali.

As many as 10 girls were found to have been stuck.

Three of them are working for an IT company in Mohali in Sector 67 here. They have been identified as Gurpreet Kaur and Shashi, both residents of Rajpura, and Manisha, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib. They said that they are living in Mauli Baidwan village, Sector 80.

Gurpreet Kaur said: “We have joined the company just one month ago. Our company was shut down on Monday and after that, we got stuck here due to lockdown. Our parents are worried.”

They have also written a letter to the Mohali SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) for seeking permission to go home, but to no avail.

Other six girls got stuck at a PG in Sector 78. Akali Dal councillor Sukhdev Singh said the six girls neither have food nor money. He said he was trying to provide them with food and has also contacted the Mohali SDM for arranging special passes for the girls. The SDM has assured him that he would send them back to their homes, he added. These girls hail from Jagraon (Ludhiana), Tapa Mandi (Barnala), Bathinda and Sangrur. Five of them were working in patient home care centres whereas one girl was working with a future care company.

One of the victims, Renu, said: “We don’t have food or money. We are helpless. Nearby banks and ATMs are also closed.”

Another girl from Nabha, Patiala, has also been stuck in the city following lockdown throughout the nation.

Officials of the District Administrative Complex, Mohali, said they had received several letters and requests for the same in the past two days. He said they were working to resolve the issues of those stuck.
