1.061 kg heroin seizure in Gharinda, Amritsar
The Gharinda police have recovered 1.061 kg of heroin in two separate cases registered on August 5 and 6, arrested two persons in one case while the accused in the other case remains unidentified.
In the first case registered on August 5 under Sections 21-C, 23 and 61/85 of the NDPS Act, the Border Security Force recovered 561 gram of heroin near the Border Out Post (BOP), Kahangarh.
According to the FIR, a BSF patrolling team found a small packet containing heroin in the Kahangarh area. A drug detection kit was used to confirm the substance as heroin. The consignment, along with the packing material, was subsequently handed over to the police. A case was registered against an unidentified person and further investigation is on to establish the source and intended recipient of the consignment.
In the second case, the Gharinda police arrested Sonu Singh, alias Monu, and Ranjit Sing,h alias Nannu, both residents of Attari.
The arrests were made during police patrolling near the road connecting Bhaini Rajputan village with Attari.
According to the police, the two suspects were spotted riding a black, numberless Splendor motorcycle. On being intercepted and searched, the police allegedly recovered 500 gram of heroin from their possession.
The police said a drug detection kit was used to confirm the contraband as heroin and the motorcycle was also taken into possession.
Investigations in both cases are underway to ascertain the source of the drugs and establish possible links with the cross-border smuggling network operating along the border belt.
