Panic gripped Kale Ghannupur area when a youth fired around three gunshots in the air here on Wednesday evening.

A police patrolling party, which was passing through the area, arrested Sukhwinder Singh, alias Bubble, of Master Baua Singh Chakki Wali Gali. His accomplice Manpreet Singh of Kale village managed to flee. The police said raids were on to nab him. A case under Section 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25, 54,59-A of the Arms Act has been registered against them.

Satpal Singh, investigating officer and in-charge of the Kale Ghannupur police post, said he, along with the police party, was patrolling the area when he heard several gunshots in Hargobind Avenue near Radha Sawami Dera. The cops saw the accused with his SUV (PB-46-G-0089) parked on the roadside. They were standing near the vehicle. The cops caught hold of Sukhwinder while Manpreet fled. The police found three empty shells from the spot. It also confiscated the .32 bore firearm.

He could not show the licence of the weapon. He told the police that it was his friend’s revolver. “Till now, they have not produced any arm licence,” he said. Appropriate action would be taken against the weapons owner also, he added.
