17 kg heroin, 924 gm opium seized across Gurdaspur

The police today seized 17 kg of heroin, 924 gm of opium and 965 intoxicating tablets from across Gurdaspur.

Gurdaspur SSP Aditya-led special teams raided areas where the sale of narcotics, particularly heroin, was reported under Operation Parhar-4.0, and arrested those involved or having links to smuggling modules.

DIG (Border) Harmanbir Singh Gill too was part of the operation that started in the wee hours today.

The operation was an intelligence-led campaign launched to dismantle organised crime, gangster networks and drug trafficking in this border district.

A police officer claimed that the operation, the preparations of which had been going on for the past several weeks, focused on busting financial trails, weapon supply chains and communication networks of criminal syndicates.

Hundreds of Gurdaspur police personnel were deployed in the cordon and search operations (CASO).

Several proclaimed offenders and anti-social elements were also arrested.

Cordon and search operations, which are an integral part of Parhar-4, were conducted in Amritsar on July 21 and 22 and in Batala, on August 3 and 4.

DIG Gill said, “Today’s operation has resulted in significant action against drug traffickers, gangsters, proclaimed offenders, absconders, organised criminals and other anti-social elements, dealing a massive blow to the criminal infrastructure which exists in the border range.

“The Punjab Police is committed to bringing misguided youth back into the mainstream. Young individuals who have been influenced through the social media by gangsters and anti-social elements operating from Pakistan will be given an opportunity to reform. Our objective is not only strict enforcement against criminals, but also rehabilitation of those willing to abandon the path of crime and become responsible citizens,” he added.
