2 booked for illegal mining
Acting on a complaint by Executive Engineer-cum-District Mining Officer Sahil Kumar, the Sadar Patti police have registered a case against two persons for allegedly carrying out illegal mining.
The accused have been identified as Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Gharka village under Chohla Sahib police station, and Balwinder Singh, a resident of Mal Chak village under Goindwal Sahib police station.
In his complaint to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar Patti police station, Sahil Kumar stated that the de-silting site at Kuttiwala village in the Patti area had been officially closed. However, the accused allegedly resumed mining operations at the site without authorisation.
A team led by Sahil Kumar raided the site and seized two Poklen excavators. According to the complaint, the mining site is registered in the name of Chardi Kala Tile Factory, owned by Balwinder Singh, while the land from which the alleged illegal mining was being carried out belongs to Sukhdev Singh.
The police have registered a case against the two accused under Sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Mines and Minerals Act.
Investigating officer ASI Gurpal Singh said the accused are yet to be arrested. Besides taking possession of the two Poklen machines, the mining department also seized four tractor-trolleys loaded with sand from the site.
