2 cross-border smuggling modules busted in Amritsar, 10 arrested
Police recover 5.438 kg heroin, three pistols, live cartridges and cash during intelligence-led operation
Two organised modules involved in smuggling narcotics and illegal weapons from across the border were busted by police on Saturday in Amritsar, resulting in the arrest of 10 suspects and the recovery of 5.438 kg of heroin along with sophisticated firearms.
Police officials said three pistols — a Glock 9mm, a Zigana 9mm, and a .32 bore weapon — along with 34 live cartridges and Rs 4,500 in drug money were seized during the intelligence-led operation.
The action followed sustained surveillance and technical inputs about cross-border consignments being routed into the state.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms. The heroin and illegal arms were smuggled into Indian territory and subsequently distributed across different areas through a well-organised local network.

The cross-border smuggling through drones has emerged as a significant security challenge in the border belt. Smugglers are increasingly using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to drop narcotics and weapons at pre-decided locations, particularly during night hours, allowing them to bypass border fencing and ground patrols.
