2 government schools burgled overnight in Chawinda Devi village

Miscreants break classroom locks, steal electrical wiring and other items; police register case and launch probe

Two government schools located at Chawinda Devi village were allegedly burgled overnight, with unidentified persons decamping with electrical wiring and other items after breaking open classroom locks.

The Kathunangal police have registered a case under Sections 305, 331(4) and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following complaints lodged by the principals of the Government Elementary School and the Government Senior Secondary Smart School in the village.

In his statement, Navdeep Singh, principal of the Government Elementary School, said that after school hours on February 4, staff members had locked the premises and left. When he returned the next morning, he found the classroom locks broken.

Unknown miscreants had allegedly damaged the electrical wiring, pulled out cables and broken switches.

The accused also allegedly stole an LPG cylinder, steel utensils, including buckets, cooking vessels and a cooker, from the school kitchen. A steel sanitiser stand was also found missing. Additionally, CCTV cameras installed on the premises were damaged, bathroom taps were stolen and parts of the washroom infrastructure were vandalised.

In a separate complaint, the principal of the Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Chawinda Devi, reported that miscreants stole electrical wiring from the school library during the intervening night of February 4 and 5.

The police said a case had been registered and an investigation was under way to identify and apprehend the culprits.
