2 Jalandhar residents among 3 booked for immigration fraud
The Beas police have booked three persons, including two Jalandhar residents, on the charge of immigration fraud. They had duped a local of over Rs 15 lakhs on the promise of sending him to the United States of America.
The case was registered after a four-month-long investigation by the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Baba Bakala.
The accused have been identified as Ashok Kumar and his son, Lishok Kumar, of Basti Gujja in Jalandhar, and Mohammad Sufian of Malerkotla.
Gurpinder Singh, a resident of Kaleke village, had filed a complaint on September 13 last year. In his complaint, he had alleged that the accused took Rs 15.47 lakh from him for the work. However, neither did the accused arrange a visa for him, nor did they return his money.
During investigation, the police verified the allegations and found the evidence against the three accused. A case under Section 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Profession Regulation Act has been registered in the matter.
