2 nabbed with 262-gm heroin

AMRITSAR: Acting on a tip off, the Mehta police nabbed two persons for allegedly possessing heroin here on Saturday evening.

Acting on a tip off, the Mehta police nabbed two persons for allegedly possessing heroin here on Saturday evening. They have been identified as Varinderjit Singh and Harpreet Singh, both residents of Hoshiarpur. They had bought the same from Jagroop Singh of Kathunangal, who has also been nominated in the case.

Ajaypal Singh, investigating officer, said the police had received a specific input that the accused were habitual drug consumers, who used to sell the same to their clients as well. Following this, a checkpoint was laid near Nath Ki Khuhi and the accused, travelling in a car (PB-07-BR-2101), were caught. During search, the police found 262 gm of heroin. He said a case under the NDPS Act was registered against them. They were produced before the court which sent him to two days police remand.

During preliminary interrogation, the police got to know that they procured the contraband from Jagroop Singh, who is yet to be arrested.
