20-kg poppy husk seized, 2 caught



Amritsar: The city police nabbed two persons with 20 kg of poppy husk near Sun City on the Batala road yesterday. They had concealed the drugs in apple boxes they brought from J&K. They have been identified as Gurcharan Singh of Verka and Mangat Ram of Gandhi Nagar in Rajasansi. The police also seized Rs 31,000 and three mobile phones from their possession. They were produced in a court here today and brought on police remand for further interrogation. tns

Rescue proves fatal for sambar

Amritsar: A Sambar died while being rescued from a 66 kv power sub-station at the Sultanwind road on Saturday. It was the second such death in 10 days. A videowent viral on social media in which a few persons were seen chasing the scared sambar with ropes and sticks in the power sub-station. District Forest Officer Surjit Singh Sahota said, “After giving first aid, the sambar was taken for release in the nearby forest, but it died on the way.” tns
