30-year-old taxi driver shot in Khemkaran

A taxi driver identified as Shera Masih (30), a resident of border area Khemkaran town, was reportedly shot dead near the township today by two unidentified armed persons, who had hired taxi to go to Amritsar.

A taxi driver identified as Shera Masih (30), a resident of border area Khemkaran town, was reportedly shot dead near the township today by two unidentified armed persons, who had hired taxi to go to Amritsar.

The assailants hired the taxi from the taxi stand of Khemkaran village to go to Amritsar today.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lakhwinder Singh said Masih along with the accused had hardly gone 10 km away from Khemkaran when one of them opened fire, which hit on Masih’s head. Masih, who got injured, lost control over the taxi and the assailants escaped from the spot.

Masih was taken to the Community Health Centre, Khemkaran, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The DSP said a police team reached the spot after they got information about the crime. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital, Patti, for a postmortem examination.

A case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59-A of the Arms Act has been registered in this regard. The reason behind the crime has not been ascertained so far.
