Amritsar, September 20

Four armed persons barged into a house in Jatta village, damaged household items and also opened fire in the air to create panic in the village on Wednesday. An old enmity is said to be the reason behind the incident.

One of the accused has been identified as Bikramjit Singh of Kotla Rajia village.

Complainant Sawinder Singh said that the accused, armed with a rifle and other weapons, turned up at around 9 pm and sought the whereabouts of his brother Ranjit Singh, who was not present at home. They are said to have hurled abuses at the family and ransacked the house. They allegedly fired several gunshots in the air following which residents nearby ran towards the house.

Later, the accused fled away in their vehicle. Sawinder said the accused had an old enmity with his brother Ranjit Singh. The complainant said he expected a stern action against the accused.

The police have registered a case under Sections 452, 427, 336, 34 of the Indian Penal Code and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act against the accused, who are absconding till now. The police official said raids were on to arrest them.
