BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised its 57th annual awards day to felicitate young achievers in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. Dr SP Singh Oberoi, an industry leader and philanthropist based in Dubai, was the chief guest. Dr Kanwar Mandeep Singh, Director Sports at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), and Prof Maninder Lal Singh, former Director of MTTC at GNDU, were the guests of honour.
Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia said, “Dr Oberoi is a great asset to society who has made immense contributions to the welfare of humanity, serving as a role model for the youth of India.” She said it was a proud moment for the college to honour students who have consistently secured merit positions in the GNDU examinations and excelled in various co-curricular activities, thus, making the institution one of the top-ranking women’s colleges in North India.
Addressing the students, she remarked that awards provide a taste of success. She added that while one may face setbacks in life, it is important not to give up but to rise again and move forward with full gusto. She also presented the Annual Report, highlighting the college’s achievements across various arenas.
In his address, Dr Oberoi said that DAV institutions were established with the vision of a literate India, and that BBK DAV College for Women is fulfilling this vision with dedication and commitment. He highlighted that these institution were established with the aim of spreading education based on Vedic values, promoting moral integrity and nurturing responsible citizens. He further noted that the college has been working relentlessly to provide quality education and ensure the holistic development of its students.
Dr Kanwar Mandeep Singh and Prof Maninder Lal Singh lauded the achievements of the college and extended their best wishes for its future growth and progress.
Nearly 800 students were honoured on the occasion. Vedita Kapoor (BBA Semester VI) received the Late Saraswati Devi Award for excellence in academics and co-curricular activities, while Trisha (BSc Economics Semester VI) was awarded the Late AS Soni Award for best all-rounder student.
College players were awarded a total of Rs 5,00,000 by GNDU in recognition of their outstanding performances at the intervarsity level and in the Khelo India University Games. Coaches of various sports were also honoured during the event. Jyoti, a hockey player, was conferred with the Best Player of the Year Award for her exceptional performance during the 2025-26 session.
