9th Parminderjeet Memorial Award for poet Vishal
The Punjabi Sahit Sabha, Baba Bakala Sahib, in collaboration with IPSA Australia, has announced that this year’s Ninth Parminderjeet Memorial Award will be conferred upon distinguished Punjabi poet Vishal. The award will be presented by eminent Punjabi ghazal writer Gurtej Koharwala, and film writer Kuldeep Singh Bedi, along with renowned poet and critic Prof Kulwant Aujla. The event will also witness the presence of prominent literary figures, including Dr Gopal Singh Buttar, Makkhan Kohar, poet Indresh Meet, storyteller Deep Davinder, Kanwar Iqbal and Gurmeet Singh Bajwa.
Vishal, an accomplished poet and editor, has carved a niche for himself in Punjabi literature. His editorial work has garnered critical acclaim, particularly for his sharp commentary and captivating style of prose. His poetic works, including Tittli Te Kaali Hawa, Canvas Kol Pai Bansari, Main Aje Hona Hai and Treh, have earned widespread recognition. His prose books, Italy Ch Moulda Punjab and Thaari Yaad Chokhi Aave, have been highly appreciated by readers.
He has also served as editor for the literary magazine Akhar for nine years. During his stay in Italy, he also edited the Indo-Italian Times, the first newspaper catering to the Indian diaspora across Europe. He has penned over 100 songs for various theatrical productions. His lyrical compositions have been featured in the Punjabi feature film Bol and in educational projects under the Punjab Government’s Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. His literary works have been translated into multiple languages.
