An employee of a private security firm, who had reported robbery of Rs 3.18 lakh on Tuesday, has been arrested for planning and executing the same. He has been identified as Rajinderpal Singh, a resident of Friends Avenue, Palah Sahib road. His accomplice Vikramjit Singh, alias Vicky, of Prem Nagar Mohalla, Meerakot Chowk, has also been arrested.

Subedar Dilbagh Singh (retd), owner of Radiant Security that takes cash from different firms to deposit the same with banks, had mentioned in his police complaint that his employee Rajinderpal took Rs 3.18 lakh from a firm, Flemingo, located at the Airport road, for depositing the same with a bank on Tuesday. Later, he informed him that unknown persons, travelling on a bike, had snatched the cash near IVY Hospital.

The airport police investigated the case and found a number mismatch in Rajinderpal’s statements. The police came to know that he was an addict. During interrogation, he confessed to his crime and named Vikramjit Singh as his partner. He is also an addict. He admitted that they concocted the story in order to swindle the amount.

On his information, the police nabbed Vikramjit and recovered Rs 1.56 lakh from Rajinderpal which he had kept in the headlight of his motorcycle and tool box. The police recovered Rs 76,000 from Vikramjit. They used the remaining amount for drug addiction.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sarabjit Singh said a case under Sections 420, 406 and 120-B of the IPC was registered against them. They were produced in the court and brought on police remand for further interrogation.
