Inauguration of civil work in Ward 55 turned tense today when a heated argument broke out between Amritsar Central MLA Ajay Gupta and Gurdev Dara, husband of Congress councillor Kulbir Dara in Ganda Wali Gali.

The situation escalated when Gurdev Dara allegedly attempted to remove a garland from the neck of AAP block in-charge. MLA Ajay Gupta objected to it, following which Dara accused the legislator of taking undue credit for development works funded by the Municipal Corporation. “These works are being carried out with MC funds, yet the MLA is trying to claim credit,” Dara said during the exchange.

Gupta countered the allegation, asserting that the projects were part of the state government’s ‘Rangla Punjab’ initiative. As the argument intensified, Gupta accused Dara of misbehaving with him.

“I have only opposed the photo session being held to get credit over MC’s work. The MLA is an elected representative and he has the right to inaugurate the MC projects. But those who defeated in the elections are inaugurating the projects, while elected councillors are being ignored”, said Dara Gupta said that misbehaviour would not be tolerated.
