Amritsar, November 16 

A one-day national seminar on “Teacher Education: Issues and Challenges” was organised at the Sidana Institute of Education here on Saturday. 

Dr TS Banipal, dean, college development council, Guru Nanak Dev University; Dr UC Vashishtha, professor of education, University of Lucknow; Dr SP Malhotra, chief consultant, Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi; Dr JS Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Saboo, Bathinda; researchers, scholars and delegates graced the occasion. 

More than 60 research papers were presented by the participants in different technical sessions. Chief guest Banipal with his speech enlightened the gathering with his valuable ideas on teacher education. 

He appreciated the efforts of Sidana Institute of Education in preparing good teachers. Prof Vashishtha was the keynote speaker of the seminar and stressed on the need for quality education in teacher training programmes. Dr Malhotra  spoke about the emerging issues and challenges in higher education. He stressed on the need of role of teachers for the development of the nation.

Dr JS Dhillon, guest of the valedictory session,  shared his noble ideas on the challenges ahead in higher education like problem of enrolment in colleges, curriculum its planning and implementation, research and policies. 

Dr Jeewan Jyoti Sidana, Principal, Sidana Institute of Education, honoured the   valedictory session guest.
