Ad hoc lecturers unhappy over GNDU’s new recruitment rules

Even as Guru Nanak Dev University is all set to start its staff recruitment on Monday, the association of ad hoc teachers has lashed out at the university for changing the eligibility criteria for teaching jobs. They allege that the university has not followed the rules.

The recruitment drive will begin on Monday. There is a requirement of around 400 employees on contractual basis and 15 on permanent basis for several departments of the Guru Nanak Dev University, its regional campuses and constituted colleges.

Union president Gurpreet Singh said, “The university keeps on experimenting with new things. They took away our contractual tag and made us teachers on per lecture basis. They have also removed the consideration of M.Phil marks.”

As per the present system, the university, for assistant professor applicants, considers performance in bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, PhD, NET, NET-JRF, university gold medal but it has done away with the consideration of M.Phil marks. “Removing the M.Phil marks has limited the opportunities for candidates, who are not holding PHD degree,” added Singh.

Meanwhile, GNDU Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu said that no rule had been violated in setting up of criteria for recruitment. “There is no violation.

As per the University Grants Commission (UGC), one can include marks of M.Phil or PhD. Separate mark for M.Phil cannot be included.”

The university has changed its selection process as the applications, instead of being evaluated by the office of the Dean, Academics, will be assessed by the board of controllers for different subjects. The board comprises of experts, academicians and heads of departments concerned. This year, all interviews shall also be filmed.
