Alumni share memories at GNDU meet

The alumni meet of the golden jubilee year 2019 of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) saw former students sharing their memories associated with the varsity. Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Fatehdeep Singh presided over the meet as chief guest.

The GNDU registrar, Prof KS Kahlon, welcomed the alumni and discussed significance of community culture and faculty.

Justice Fatehdeep Singh highlighted the need to adopt new techniques as per the requirements of changing world and understand the causes behind dropouts in educational institutes.

He said, “We need to look into the dropout ratio in our educational institutes. The dropouts are often lured into crime. It is impacting us as a society. Let us come together to build a nation. We should focus on empowering our educational structure.”

While being nostalgic guest of honour of the day, DGP (J&K) Dilbagh Singh depicted his times in the university acknowledging that whatever he was today was because of the institution.

He particularly referred to the contribution of Prof Gurnam Singh and Dr Kuldip Singh, coordinator of the IAS Centre.

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who is also vice-president of the GNDU alumni, said steps were being taken to strengthen the alumni association in such a way that it could address contemporary social problems.

Kulwant Singh from Roko Cancer Institution introduced Punjab-based cancer programme of his NGO.

The GNDU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, said, “The alumni of the university have risen to great heights in diverse fields. The alumni are holding key positions in the academics, judiciary, IFS, IAS, PCS, PCS judcial , Indian Police Services, federal services, corporate sector, political parties and public/pharma sector. The varsity alumni happen to be the Vice-Chancellors of many universities in India.”

Notable among those who attended the alumni meet, include Dr Manmohan Singh, IPS and Additional Director, Intelligence Bureau; Dr Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, IGP and vice-president of executive council of the AAGNDU; Manjit Singh Nijjar, Dr Jasbir Singh Hundal, Registrar, PTU, Ranjit Bawa, popular singer, and Satinder Satti among others.
