Amritsar girl wins silver at national boxing championship
Aasmeen Kaur, a boxer from Khalsa College Senior Secondary School (Girls), has won a silver medal at the School National Under-19 Boxing Championship held from February 5 to 9 in Bengaluru. Competing in the 69 kg weight category, Aasmeen fought her way to the finals, displaying exceptional skill and determination. Her remarkable performance earned her the silver medal, bringing recognition to both her and the Khalsa College Boxing Centre, where she trains.
Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, honorary secretary of the Khalsa College Governing Council, School Principal Puneet Nagpal, and Sports Head Madam Soni congratulated Aasmeen and the boxing team. They commended the school’s commitment to encouraging girls in sports and expressed confidence that more students would continue to bring honour to the institution. They also urged Aasmeen to aim for greater success in future competitions.
Aasmeen, a four-time state boxing champion, hails from Chauhan village and travels nearly 120 km daily with her grandfather, Daljit Singh, to attend training at Khalsa College. Under the coaching of Baljinder Singh of Punjab Police, her dedication and consistent performance have made her an inspiration to young athletes.
Aasmeen began boxing in 2019 after watching matches on television during the Covid lockdown. Despite coming from a village with little sports infrastructure, she has steadily climbed the ranks at both state and national levels, proving that talent can thrive even in modest surroundings.
