The recovery is considered significant, as such high-end weapons are often linked to organised crime networks, he pointed out.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in direct contact with a foreign-based handler operating from Portugal.

The handler is suspected to have played a key role in facilitating the smuggling of illegal arms from across the Pakistan border into India. The accused allegedly acted as local conduits, further supplying these weapons to criminal elements in the region.

Efforts are underway to trace forward and backward linkages, including identifying other associates and beneficiaries of the smuggled weapons.

A case has been registered at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar, under relevant sections of the BNS and Arms Act. Further investigation is in progress to dismantle the entire network and ascertain the full extent of the operation.
