Army for sealing of marriage palaces near ammo depot

Army officials have asked the district administration to take action against marriage palaces, constructed in violation of rules near the ammunition depot at Vallah, Verka bypass. Brigadier RPS Dhillon held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shivdular Singh Dhillon, MC Commissioner Harbir Singh and police officials in this regard. Brigadier Dhillon asked the officials to take action against the violators, who had constructed marriage palaces near the ammunition depot by violating the rules.

Dhillon warned that the marriage palaces near the ammunition depot were inviting some major tragedy so the administration should take necessary action to avoid such a situation.

It is worth mentioning here that a major fire had broken out in one of the palaces on February 20 during a function. On the complaint of ammunition depot officials, the municipal town planning (MTP) wing of the Municipal Corporation (MC) had sealed five marriage palaces on February 23.

The owners of such marriage palaces broke open the seals soon after the MC officials left the spot. The marriage palaces have been hosting marriages and parties without any disruption.

Even after the civic body claims regarding re-sealing the palaces, MC officers have failed to revisit the spot till date. Finally, the Army has apprised the administration about the risk of organising such parties near the ammunition depot.

Municipal Town Planner Parampal Singh said, “The case of marriage palaces is sub judice so we can’t demolish any structure. But we will not allow them to organise any event. We will seal the marriage palaces soon.”
