Arts fest to highlight cultural legacy of Guru Nanak

A part of the ongoing celebrations of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev at Sultanpur Lodhi, the Guru Nanak Arts Festival will display over 163 paintings done by eminent artist from across the state.

City-based artist Arvinder Chamak, who has curated the exhibition and festival, shared that the festival would present the traditional and contemporary arts, inspired by the Guru’s life, to the devotes thronging the event.

“The festival will have works of prominent artist like Siddharth, Prem Singh, RM Singh and others. We also have a tanti saaz gallery, where antique musical string instruments like afghani dilruba, veena, rubab, taus, etc, that are used in Gurmat Sangeet will be displayed. These have been sourced from an organisation that runs a project in conservation of these musical instruments. Then, we will also have 20 sculptures on display along with photographs of the original frescoes at Baba Atal Rai gurudwara,” he said. Art works by Chamak will also be part of the exhibition.

The festival will also put on display the copies of Janam Sakhi, a book on Guru Nanak Dev’s life whose original manuscript is kept at London Museum. “The book was written in 17th century and is part of the heritage and legacy of Guru Nanak Dev,” said Chamak. Apart from the various exhibits, 25 artists, including calligraphists, will be part of the five-day arts festival.
