ASI caught taking Rs 5,000 as bribe

AMRITSAR: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector, Surinder Kumar, posted at Bhikhiwind police station in Tarn Taran for allegedly seeking bribe for preparing a challan in connection with a fraud case.

Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector, Surinder Kumar, posted at Bhikhiwind police station in Tarn Taran for allegedly seeking bribe for preparing a challan in connection with a fraud case. He was caught red-handed in presence of government witnesses while accepting Rs 5,000 for the same.

The Vigilance Bureau, in a statement issued late on Tuesday evening, said Balwinder Singh of Mari Udoke village had complained that the accused was not preparing a challan in a fraud case registered at the police station in December 2017. The complainant had stated that the accused had been demanding Rs 5,000 as bribe. Following this, a trap was laid and ASI Surinder Kumar was nabbed red-handed.

A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him and further investigation was under way.
