ASI nabbed for taking bribe
The Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a local resident for releasing his car.
He was identified as ASI Sarabjit Singh, who is currently posted at the Islamabad police station here.
A VB spokesman said the complainant had lodged a complaint on the anti-corruption helpline of the Punjab Government. He said he was nominated in an FIR registered by the Verka police and ASI Sarabjit Singh was the investigating officer in the case.
He said the police had seized his car in the case and he had requested them to hand it over to him on Supardari (interim disposal). However, ASI Sarabjit Singh demanded Rs 3,000 as bribe for releasing the car seized as case property.
The VB said later the allegations were found to be true following which he was nabbed red-handed by it. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him at the Vigilance Bureau here.
