Gurdaspur, July 16

Nearly 300 teachers on Monday held a protest against the Dinanagar police, claiming that they were not adding Section 186 IPC (obstructing public servant from performing duty) in an FIR lodged after a vocational educational teacher was beaten up by students on June 7.

Jasbir Kumar was beaten up outside Government Senior Secondary School, Chadoli, Dinanagar, allegedly by students. His arms and legs were fractured and his two mobiles and Rs 30,000 were snatched by the accused. Jasbir Kumar is still recuperating at the Gurdaspur Civil Hospital. Vicky and Mandeep were also arrested.

SSP Swarandeep Singh said they were willing to add the relevant section provided the teachers gave their statement. Amarjit Shastri, convener, Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha, said the police should also add Section 307 (attempt to murder) since the students wanted to kill the teacher. — TNS
