Amritsar, March 26
The Amritsar Vikas Manch submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and Excise Department not to issue L1 licences to illegal clubs in historic Ram Bagh gardens here on Monday.
Kulwant Singh Ankhi, founder of Amritsar Club, stated that a deputation of the AVM met the Deputy Commissioner and Excise Commissioner to make them aware of the directions of the court.
Ankhi claimed that as per the memorandum submitted by the Municipal Corporation and Archeological Survey of India (ASI) in the court, liquor can’t be served in historic and ASI-protected monument.
“As per the rules, the district administration should not issue licence to serve liquor in clubs. We submitted the memorandum to the DC and he assured us to take necessary action,” said Ankhi.
Charanjit Singh Gumtala, officer-bearer of the AVM, said, “The garden belongs to Mahraja Ranjit Singh. It is a monument related to Sikh heritage. Serving liquor is also an indecent act and the administration should not allow it.” — TNS
