Amritsar: Even after passage of two days, robbers who struct at a branch of the Punjab and Sind Bank at Chhajjalwindi village are still out of reach of the police.



Amritsar: Even after passage of two days, robbers who struck at a branch of the Punjab and Sind Bank at Chhajjalwindi village are still out of reach of the police. The police are now preparing sketches of suspects in the case. Around six unknown robbers had decamped with Rs 7.83 lakhs after pointing guns at the security guard and the bank staff. Though the police claimed to have identified two of them, they have failed to make any arrests in the case till now. Investigation revealed that the robbers, who were travelling in white colored Brezza car, fled towards Tarn Taran side. SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal said two of them were history-sheeters and they have been identified. TNS

Traffic cop assaulted 

Amritsar: The police have arrested a person for assaulting a traffic cop near a gurdwara here on Sunday. The suspect has been identified as Mahesh Mehra. ASI Mangal Singh said he was deployed near Gurdwara Ramsar when he noticed a man coming from the wrong side on his bike. He said there was a lot of traffic on the road. The traffic policeman added that he signalled him to go back, but instead he exchanged heated arguments and later, slapped him. He said Mahesh also tore his uniform. The ASI said as the accused wanted to flee from the spot, he was nabbed with the help of passers-by. A case under Sections 353, 186 and 332 of the IPC has been registered. TNS

Rs 20-lakh grant for civic body

Tarn Taran: Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Monday visited Chabal town. On the occasion, he said: “The cooperation sector is the backbone of the farming community and the Punjab Government is taking path-breaking initiatives for uplifting farmers economically.” He said an audit of all the cooperative societies would be carried out and action would be taken against those responsible for any wrongdoing. Randhawa added that steps are being taken to ensure timely payments to sugarcane farmers. He announced Rs 20-lakh grant to the Municipal Council of Tarn Taran for development projects. He also announced opening of an extension counter of the cooperative bank at Gaggobuha village. TNS A
