Banker on the run after fraud

The Jandiala police have booked Mandeep Singh of Green Avenue and his wife Satwinder Kaur for allegedly duping residents of Bandala village. Mandeep took money from people for opening their fixed deposit accounts but transferred the money to his wife’s account.

Mandeep is the manager of HDFC Bank’s Bandala village branch. The incident came to light when Ashu Garg, cluster head of the bank, lodged a complaint with the police.

Garg stated to the police that he collected Rs 49 lakh from residents of Bandala and adjoining villages and transferred the same to his wife’s account. The incident occurred in May this year.

The case was registered following a preliminary probe conducted by DSP (Investigations).

The police have registered a case under Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) of the IPC against the suspects and no arrest has been made till now.

SSP Parampal Singh said further investigation was under way and raids were on to arrest the suspects.
