Raol Sharma, branch manager, told the police that the thieves entered the bank after damaging the main gate of the bank. They used a gas cutter to break the strong room but couldn’t. The police said an investigation into the case was under way. OC

Man booked for rape

Amritsar: A migrant woman has accused a Bihar man of allegedly raping her after making a fake marriage promise. The accused has been identified as Chhotu of Bhagalpur, Bihar. The 22-year-old complainant, who hails from Banka district, Bihar, stated to the Beas police that the accused brought her to the city in October last year with a promise that he would marry her and also developed physical relations. Later, he refused for marriage. He is said to be at large and raids are being conducted to nab him. TNS

Heroin seized

Tarn Taran: A team of the CIA staff arrested a man from Buse village for allegedly possessing 50 gm of heroin on Friday. He has been identified as Sarmail Singh of Jathaul village that falls under the Gharinda police station. The team that caught him was led by led by ASI Anokh Singh. The accused has been booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act by the Sarai Amanat Khan police. OC

Stolen rifle recovered

Tarn Taran: The Bhikhiwind police have recovered a .12 bore double barrel gun that was stolen from Jandiala Guru. The accused has been identified as Jeon Singh of Patti. ASI Pooran Singh, investigating officer, said Jeon Singh was caught in connection with a case related to NDPS Act. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had stolen the gun from a house in Jandiala Guru. He had hid it in the drain of Mari Gaur Singh. OC

ICAI panelist at Golden Temple

Amritsar: Parmod Jain, member of the Central Council of Institute of Charted Accountants of India, paid obeisance at Golden Temple here on Saturday. SGPC officials honoured him with a set of books. Among others present there were Saurav Kumar Sharma, Gagandeep, Daljit Singh Marwaha, Raghav Seth, all charted accountants and others. TNS

203 appear for JEE

Amritsar: The five-day JEE (Main) examination concluded in the city on Saturday. The exam was conducted by the National Testing Agency for the first time. As many as 203 students appeared on the final day of the examination that was held in two shifts. Ajnana Gupta, Principal, DAV International School, and state coordinator, JEE, said, “The new system was highly effective as it was online. All steps were taken to ensure that students were able to take exam smoothly. The support from NTA team and officials was very good. Being paperless, it was a stress reliever.” TNS
