Brahmpura flags tainted elements in Khadoor Sahib constituency, writes to CM Bhagwant Mann for support
Internal dissent appears to be surfacing within the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) following the party’s recent decision to appoint Ragandeep Kaur, wife of Sarpanch Avtar Singh Billa Seron, as constituency in charge of Khadoor Sahib assembly segment.
Senior SAD leader and former MLA Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, son of erstwhile Akali stalwart Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, has raised strong objections, indicating signs of rebellion within the party ranks in the Khadoor Sahib constituency.
The assembly segment had been represented by Ranjit Singh Brahmpura earlier, and after his death, Ravinder has contested from the seat thrice. Until recently, he was considered the only contender for the SAD ticket.
Without naming any individual, Brahmpura alleged that certain “tainted elements” and individuals with questionable backgrounds, including suspected drug traffickers, were being provided indirect political and social patronage. His remarks are being seen as a veiled criticism of recent developments within the party’s local leadership.
Brahmpura has written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, flagging concerns over the alleged rise of such elements. In the letter, he has put forward constitutional suggestions for the strict enforcement of laws to prevent incidents of sacrilege involving Guru Granth Sahib at the ground level. He further highlighted the need to safeguard the youth of the historically significant and sacred land of Khadoor Sahib, which holds immense religious importance in Sikh history.
Brahmpura warned that the people of Punjab, particularly the sangat of the constituency, would not tolerate the promotion or protection of anti-social elements. He urged the state government to act firmly and without political pressure against drug peddlers and those allegedly backing them. “The government must take strict action against those involved in drug trafficking and their patrons, failing which the people of Punjab will not forgive,” he stated.
Calling it a larger fight to protect the sanctity of Khadoor Sahib, Brahmpura sought the support of the Chief Minister in addressing these concerns.
