Members of various Left-leaning parties organised a joint convention and staged a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR) here on Wednesday. They said these were dividing the nation on communal lines, which was the foundation of secularism. The call of the convention was given by leadership of CPI, RMPI and CPI (ML) New Democracy and the Revolutionary Centre and the workers marched across the town.

RMPI National General Secretary Comrade Mangat Ram Pasla and CPI leader Harbhajan Singh were also present at the event. They said the motive behind implementation of the CAA, the NRC and the NPR were to cover the lapses of the Union Government as it had failed to work for the welfare of people. The leaders said the wrong polices of the Modi government put economy in shambles which resulted in unemployment. “Trade has collapsed, farmer suicides are increasing and industries have been ruined,” they said adding that minorities must unite against the alleged wrong policies of the Union Government.
