Spring Dale Senior School

Amritsar: INTACH’S Heritage Education and Communication Service (HECS) organised the Amritsar and Punjab FILMIT Festival on Friday at Spring Dale Senior School, Amritsar. Students from 10 schools were a part of the FILMIT Amritsar and Punjab 2024-25. The festival is a celebration of their efforts and showcases the short heritage films made by them. Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, shared that the school won the awards for the “Overall Best Film” and the “Best Unique Story”, during the festival. Ojaswwee Sharma, a distinguished national award-winning film director, producer and scriptwriter was the chief guest. Maj Gen Balwinder Singh (Convenor, INTACH, Punjab State Chapter), Gagandeep Singh Virk (Convenor, INTACH, Amritsar Chapter) and other INTACH members were also present during the festival. FILMIT is a multi-cultural project that helps students in making short films on their city’s heritage. The students are trained in content development and technical knowledge through a series of workshops. So far, over 6,000 short films have been prepared by students in India.

The staff and students of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, Amritsar, bid an emotional farewell to its Plus Two students. The farewell ceremony was organised by the students and teachers of class XI on February 7 in the Urvi auditorium. The event was filled with nostalgia, gratitude and best wishes for the outgoing batch. The day was a fiesta comprising speeches, dances and games. Dr Pallavi Sethi, principal of the institution, addressed the gathering, encouraging students to strive for excellence in their future endeavours. She conveyed the blessings sent by Regional Officer, Punjab Zone – Dr Neelam Kamra and the manager of the school, Dr Pushpinder Walia, to the outgoing class. The highlight of the evening was heartfelt speeches by the teachers and students, where they reminisced about their time at the institution and expressed their gratitude.

The department of Zoology of Guru Nanak Dev University organised a special event to mark World Wetlands Day, observed on February 2 every year to highlight the importance of wetlands in sustaining biodiversity and ecosystems. The theme for this year was “Protecting wetlands for our common future”. Students of the department actively participated in poster-making, slogan-writing and rangoli competitions, showcasing their creativity and commitment to environmental protection. A thought-provoking documentary on wetlands was also screened to make the students aware about their ecological significance. All faculty members, students and research scholars of the department attended the event and a field visit to Harike wetland was announced to provide students with practical exposure to wetland biodiversity. The students of the department who actively participated in the bird census at Harike Wetland on January 18, shared their experience with the participants.
