Ashok Vatika Public School observed its annual cay celebrations with the procession of a band team of the school, leading the chief guest to the venue. Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Member of Parliament, was the guest of honour. Chairman Ashish Mahajan and the principal, Anchal Mahajan, welcomed the chief guest and honoured him with a memento. The theme of the play was ‘I am Punjab’. The young actors highlighted the issue of migration of Punjabis to Canada through a thoughtful play that insisted that the audience and the students think about their decision of leaving the country. The pain of parents and their wards was highlighted with the sufferings they came across in foreign countries. The depiction of the theme left a deep influence and persuaded the audience to work in India. The students also showcased their talent in playing musical instruments, and danced on the beat of Bhangra and Gidda.

Workshop at KCA

Amritsar: The Post-Graduate Department of Commerce and Business Administration, Khalsa College, Amritsar organised a one-day workshop on “Multiple Regression Analysis through SPSS”. The workshop was planned and executed under the supervision of Dr AK Kahlon (Workshop Chairperson) and Dr Poonam Sharma (Workshop Coordinator). The resource person of the programme was Dr Manjinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, GNDU College, Chungh, Tarn Taran. Dr Kahlon emphasised the importance of such events in enhancing the practical knowledge of students and their role in promoting educational skills. Dr Sawraj Kaur extended a floral welcome to the resource person and encouraged the students to keep participating in such events that contribute to their academic development. Dr Manjinder Kaur gave knowledge about various assumptions of regression model as well as its applicability in real life-based examples. Dr Nidhi Sabharwal conducted the stage and delivered a vote of thanks. Around 85 students actively participated in the workshop.

Red Ribbon Club

The Red Ribbon Club and Gender Champions Club, Khalsa College, Amritsar organised a seminar-cum- social awareness campaign at Amritsar Sahit Utsav Pustak Mela held at Khalsa College Amritsar (KCA). The chief guest at the programme was Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman and Global Ambassador, World Cancer Care Society. The programme was planned and executed under the guidance of Principal Dr Taminder Singh Bhatia, Dr Sawraj Kaur, Nodal Officer (Female) and Dr Parminder Singh, Nodal Officer (Male) of Gender Champions Club. During the programme, Gender Champions Club in collaboration with World Cancer Care Society organised a one-day free cancer check-up camp in the college. Dhaliwal addressed the audience regarding cancer awareness and spoke about different types of cancer such as physical and mental. He highlighted that air pollution can lead to cancer by causing inflammation in lungs. The certificates along with medals were distributed to the winners of the 'Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition'. Harmandeep Kaur (B.Com.HI) got the first position, Indeep Kaur (BA-SS I) got the second position, Taran Sabharwal (BPT 2nd Year) got the third position, Taranpreet Kaur (BCA-I) and Gautam (BCA I) got consolation prizes.

Tribute to playwright

The students of Spring Dale Senior Secondary School presented Shakespearean plays as a theme of the Theatre Festival-2024. Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, shared that as a tribute to the excelsior of the distinguished playwright, his masterpieces were staged in the form of four plays – ‘Othello’, ‘Macbeth’, ‘Hamlet’ and ‘King Lear’. Sandhu said that the event which saw a participation of around 500 students, also provided an opportunity to the Performing and Creative Arts Department of the school to showcase their mastery. Principal Rajiv Kumar Sharma, who was also the director of the show, said that Shakespeare depicts his characters as manifestation of human capabilities but they meet with tragic failures due to eventual developments and individual flaws. “His plots provide an insight into the complex human psychology and the individual tendencies. The students got a brush with the finest of the classical literature masterpieces and they also got to feel the intense circumstances depicted by the master playwright.”
