Campus notes: DAV College leads awareness rally
The Red Ribbon Club of DAV College, Amritsar, led by Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta, organised an awareness rally on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse in the village of Naushera, Majitha Road, Amritsar. The initiative aimed to educate the community about the dangers of drug addiction and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS to foster a healthier society. The event saw enthusiastic participation from local villagers, with the sarpanch, Simarjeet Kaur and former sarpanch Navdeep Singh Gill attending to support the cause. Simran Kaur, a student of MSc Mathematics, delivered a powerful address highlighting the growing problem of drug abuse and its harmful impact on individuals and families. The rally concluded with a collective pledge from the villagers to actively combat drug abuse and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.
IIM to host International management conference
Amritsar: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Amritsar is set to host the 4th International Conference on the Management of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) from 17th to 19th January 2025. In collaboration with the Dingman Centre for Entrepreneurship, Robert H Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, the event would be held at IIM Amritsar’s new campus in Manawala. The conference, themed “Advancing and Assisting Small Businesses for Global Impact,” is set to bring together leading academicians, industry leaders, policymakers and researchers to discuss strategies for addressing the challenges faced by MSMEs. Keynote speaker Dr Vijaya Venkataramani, from the Robert H Smith School of Business, would offer insights into the role of MSMEs in fostering economic growth and innovation in a globalised market.
Institute celebrates exam results
Amritsar: Sukhjinder Singh Elementary Teacher Training Institute in Hayat Nagar celebrated a remarkable 100 per cent success rate in the DElEd (second year) exams. Sujata Sharma topped the list with an impressive 87 per cent, followed by Tanu Babbar at 85 per cent. Avanpreet Kaur and Damnish Kaur shared the third position with a score of 84%, while Neha Kumari, Palwinder Kaur, and Sahil Sharma achieved 83 per cent. Nurpreet Kaur, Shivani, and Aarti Devi rounded out the top performers with 82 per cent. Chairman Savinder Singh Gill congratulated the students and staff for their hard work and dedication, wishing the graduates success in their future roles as educators. College Director Tej Bahadur Singh and Principal Balbir Kaur commended the students for their commitment to academic excellence and quality teacher training.
Lt Kalia completes course at OTA
Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’s NCC faculty recently celebrated the commissioning of Lieut Sufalica Kalia, who completed an intensive training programme at the Officers Training Academy in Gwalior. During her course, Lieut Kalia excelled, receiving a certificate of excellence in firing, a gold medal for winning the throwball competition and a certificate of appreciation for her participation in a cultural event. The principal, Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi, congratulated Lieut Kalia and said the college was committed to supporting the professional and personal growth of its faculty. MS Sachdev, Commandant of 2 Punjab (G) BN NCC Jalandhar, also extended his congratulations to Kalia on her successful completion of the course.
College hosts Dashmaster Contest
Jalandhar: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus (LKCTC) recently organised the Dashmaster Showdown Contest, where students showcased their skills in data analysis and visualisation using Tableau. The competition challenged participants to create innovative dashboards that transformed complex data into clear, engaging visuals. Munish Kumar from the Department of Data Science (5th Semester) took first place, followed by Sarabjot Singh (CSE-5th) in second and Varinder Singh and Vanshika (both DS-5th) sharing third place. Sukhbir Singh Chatha, Director of Academic Affairs at KCL Group, commended the CSE department for the event.
DAV student clears UGC NET
Jalandhar: Dharmendra Kumar, a student from the Postgraduate Sanskrit Department at DAV College, Jalandhar, has passed the UGC NET exam with distinction, earning recognition for his achievement. The result, which qualifies him for the role of Assistant Professor in higher education, is a testament to his dedication. Under the guidance of Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dharmendra, who completed his MA in Sanskrit in 2022, credited his success to consistent self-study and support from the department’s faculty. The MA curriculum, he said, was instrumental in his exam preparation.
School holds safety awareness event
Jalandhar: Shiv Jyoti Public School recently organised an awareness programme for students in classes III to V, focusing on safety in the school environment. Senior Constable Anita and Constable Daljeet Kaur from Police Division No. 2 educated students on general safety and the importance of the emergency number, a pan-India initiative aimed at safeguarding women and children. The programme received enthusiastic participation from students and staff and Principal Parveen Saili praised
the initiative, commending the police team for its
successful completion.
Tech varsity celebrates Foundation Day
Kapurthala: IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) marked its 29th Foundation Day on Thursday at its main campus on Kapurthala Road. The Vice Chancellor, Dr Susheel Mittal emphasised the importance of teamwork in providing empowered education to future generations. He urged stakeholders to prioritise collaboration at all levels of the university and engage in discussions to deliver the best services with transparent practices. During the event, Dr Mittal also released the university’s 2025 calendar. The Registrar, Dr SK Misra presented the annual report, highlighting key initiatives such as the implementation of Pay Commission recommendations for employees, support for the dependents of deceased staff and the establishment of the Business Incubation Centre and the Centre for Executive Education (CEE). He also discussed efforts to enhance student placement and promote startups. The celebration included a cultural programme by university students and concluded with a “Guru ka Langar” in the afternoon.
