Fresh chance for law aspirants

Amritsar: The Department of Higher Education, Government of Punjab, has given nod to in-person counselling directly by college/institution for admission to the three-year course at several government aided and un-aided law colleges in the state on the recommendations of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). The committee constituted to conduct centralised online counselling had written to the Secretary, Higher Education, that 1,209 out of 2,342 seats remained vacant in 36 law colleges affiliated to four state-run universities even after three rounds of counselling. The university authorities today received a notification stating that the remaining seats in all colleges could now be filled through in-person counselling by the college/institute on the basis of merit in qualifying marks and other weightages. Dr Amit Kauts, coordinator, Online Counselling, GNDU, said, “The earlier notification stated that the seats in all law colleges were to be filled through centralised counselling. Even after three rounds of online counselling, a large number of seats remained vacant. Thus, we wrote to the Department of Higher Education in this regard. We have already uploaded the schedule for in-person counselling on the Punjab law admissions portal.” He said the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for colleges to conduct in-person counselling has also been uploaded on the website. “Interested candidates who have already registered themselves for law admission will be given preference over candidates who have not registered for online counselling earlier,” he said. The university has also given time-frame for fresh registration. All interested candidates can see the details on Punjab law admissions website https://punjablawadmissions.gndu.ac.in/.
