Campus notes: Guv attends centenary celebrations
The concluding ceremony of the centenary celebrations of Shri Ram Educational Society at Shri Ram Ashram Public School, Amritsar, had Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, as the chief guest. Dr Vinodita Sankhyan, school principal, introduced the chief guest and presented the school’s annual report to the gathering. Sakshi Sawhney, Deputy Commissioner, and Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Commissioner of Police, also attended the proceedings. Balbir Bajaj (president), ML Aeri (vice-president) and other members of the school management were also present. A documentary was screened, highlighting the school’s history and many achievements over the past century, giving the audience an overview of the institution’s remarkable journey. The students of Shri Ram Ashram Public School showcased their talent with performances such as Shiv Stuti, a mesmerising flute recital, and an energetic bhangra dance, all of which were met with great applause and admiration from the audience. In his address, Gulab Chand Kataria lauded the school for its values and the distinct character of its students, which impressed him during his visit to the campus.
Sports Centre hosts squash champion
Amritsar: The Senior Study Sports Centre recently hosted a highly successful squash camp, led by nine-time national champion Dalip Tripathi. The five-day camp that was held from September 21-25 saw enthusiastic participation from young squash players aged 6 to 17 years and adults till 50 years. Tripathi has won the Over-50 category for two years, Over-45 category for four consecutive years besides Over-40 category and Over-35 category and professionals’ category. He is the coach for the Indian squash team. He has trained top players like Saurva Goshal, Dipika Pallikal, Ramit Tandon, Krish Kapoor etc. “My goal is to nurture the potential at the Senior Study II Sports Centre and help them excel in squash. I’m grateful to the school for providing a world-class facility and supportive environment,” said Tripathi. Dr Shravan Mehra, Director of The Senior Study Sports Centre and an enthusiastic squash player said that the camp has not only improved their skills but also instilled valuable life skills like discipline and teamwork.
World Tourism Day at Global Institutes
Amritsar: The Department of Hotel and Catering Management and Travel and Tourism Management of the Global Group of Institutes celebrated World Tourism Day at its campus. A host of activities were conducted in which students of both HMCT and BTTM streams took part in large numbers. To mark the day, competitions were held in baking, cake-making, mocktail and culinary skills. The students also participated in rangoli-making competition highlighting the theme of this year— Tourism and Peace. The theme of the day was well depicted in the colourful rangolis highlighting the importance of tourism in fostering international harmony, cultural understanding and peace. Vice-chairman of Global Group of Institutes Dr Akashdeep Singh Chandi said that ‘travelling opens your hearts, broadens your mind and fills your soul with unforgettable experiences’. He further said that tourism break down barriers by empowering local communities, creating jobs and promoting sustainable practices and through these efforts, lays the foundation of peace, prosperity and unity across the globe.
Spring Dale shuttlers win cluster
Amritsar: Spring Dale shuttlers made their way to the national level tournament by winning the CBSE cluster. Giving the information, Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, shared that the school’s badminton team has been adjudged the winners of the Badminton CBSE Cluster XVIII tournament held at Noorpur Bedi, Anandpur Sahib, in the Under-14 and Under-17 categories for boys. “Securing first position in their respective categories, the teams made their way to the CBSE nationals and also won eight gold medals for their school,” Sandhu shared proudly. While cheering up the winning teams, principal Rajiv Kumar Sharma said that the school provides a state-of-the-art badminton court and specialised coaching to budding shuttlers. Sharma added that the young ones are given exposure to a variety of sports activities in the junior classes itself so that their aptitude for a particular sport is identified during the early years and the school can help hone their sporting skills.
