Amritsar: Students of Spring Dale School participated and shined in different games of the School District Tournament. Sharing this information, Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, said during the School District Tournament, the school badminton team was adjudged the overall winner in the U-14 boys, U-14 girls, U-19 boys and U-19 girls categories whereas the U-17 girls team was adjudged the first runners-up and the U-17 boys’ team was adjudged the second runners-up during the tournament. Sandhu said during the district archery competition, the school students shined with Rehat and Tanjeet Kaur winning a gold medal each in the U-17 and U-14 category, respectively. School principal Rajiv Kumar Sharma congratulated the winning teams and their coaches on this remarkable achievement and reaffirmed the school’s vision to provide the best of infrastructure to students.”

National Sports Day celebrated

Amritsar: BBK DAV College for Women celebrated National Sports Day with various indigenous games and fun activities like kho-kho, tug-of-war, chess, tennis and cricket were organised under Fit India Campaign of Government of India held from August 26 to 31. College sportspersons and NCC cadets extended a warm welcome to the chief guests under Kanwar Mandeep Singh Dhillon, Director, Sports, Guru Nanak Dev University. A fit India pledge was taken to promote healthy and active lifestyle amongst youngsters. Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia said sports provide us with a microcosm of life’s broader challenges and rewards, offering numerous lessons like teamwork, discipline, leadership, respect, fair play, etc. Dr Kanwar Mandeep Singh said engaging in sports often involves overcoming setbacks, losses and injuries, thus helping athletes build resilience by learning to bounce back from adversities and maintain a positive attitude.

MSc students shine in exam

Amritsar: Students of MSc (physics) (Semester II) of DAV College, Amritsar, performed well in the exams conducted recently by Guru Nanak Dev University. Khushi Kundra got the second position by securing 16.52 CGPA and Manav Kumar got the third position by securing 15.85 CGPA in the merit list of GNDU. Dr Amardeep Gupta congratulated the students, their parents and teachers for the excellent results. He said, “The institution is giving marvellous results because of well-experienced teachers and hardworking students.”

Nagar kirtan welcomed

Amritsar: The 450th centenary nagar kirtan was welcomed on September 1 (Sunday) on the occasion of ‘Gurgaddi Diwas’ of Sri Guru Ramdas and ‘Joti Jot Diwas’ of Sri Guru Amardas, by Sri Guru Harkarishan Senior Secondary Public School, Chabhal. School principal Anureet Bawa and headmistress Simerpreet Kaur presented ‘Rumala Sahib’ to Guru Sahib Ji and the Panj Piyaras were presented with ‘Siropa’ and prasad was served. Members in-charge of the school — Manjit Singh Dhillon, S Adarshpinder Singh Maan and Ajitpal Singh Aneja — inspired students to embrace the teachings of gurus and follow their imprints.

Theatre competition

Amritsar: The Indian Heritage School organised Inter House plays with a motive to instil theatrical skills among students. The English plays are actively conducted in the school to help students to develop speech, communication, empathy and presentation skills. The students presented commendable performances in the stage play on different subjects. Ganges house among the four established houses of the school secured the first position where they performed on the play “The mystery of Chennai auditorium”, which was written by 10th class student Achyut Sharma. The second position was bagged by Cauvery house on the play “Shroud” by eminent play writer Munshi Premchand. Indus house acquired 3rd position for their play on Subhash Chandar Bose. Fourth position was bevelled by Narmada house on their play “Life of Bhagat Singh”.

Khelo India Women League

Amritsar: The Cycling Federation of India is organizing Khelo India Women League, North Zone, Amritsar, from September 3-4. Giving information in this regard, Neeraj Tanwar, joint secretary of the Cycling Federation of India, said national and international women cyclists from all over the country are participating in this championship. This league will include teams from Punjab, Haryana, Leh, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Delhi. This league will be inaugurated on September 3. Junior, sub-junior and senior category competitions will be conducted in the league.
