The Janwadi Istri Sabha on Sunday carried out a rally and candle march in protest against two horrible rape incidents occurred in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh, sparking widespread agitation.

Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, the agitators urged the governments’ to set-up fast track courts. “They should be awarded death sentence for the inhuman act,” said Kanwaljit Kaur, secretary of the organisation.

The protesters alleged that the accused were being sheltered by the BJP. Due to widespread protests, a BJP legislator and his brother have been arrested in UP while the accused in the Kathua rape and murder case is still at large.

Meanwhile, students of Khalsa College also carried out a candle march seeking justice for the victims.

Activists of the National Human Rights and Crime Control Organisation also held a demonstration at Novelty Chowk. Congress MP Gurjit Aujla took part in the agitation.
