AMRITSAR: BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh has announced that Information and Broadcasting Ministry had issued a show-cause notice to a private satellite channel seeking response in writing why contents of its telecast serial ‘Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush’ hurt the religious sentiments of the Valmiki community.

BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh has announced that Information and Broadcasting Ministry had issued a show-cause notice to a private satellite channel seeking response in writing why contents of its telecast serial ‘Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush’ hurt the religious sentiments of the Valmiki community.

He stated this during a meeting held with members of few Valmiki organisations at Kendriya Valmiki Mandir here today.

A copy of the show-cause notice, signed by Secretary Sonika Khattar states, “The serial has portrayed Maharishi Valmiki in negative light. It has hurt the religious sentiments of the Valmiki community”.

It asked the channel to respond within the next 15 days. Failure to respond within the stipulated period will be presumed that the channel has nothing to say in the matter and further action for the aforesaid violation of the provisions of Section 20 of the Cable Act will be taken against it ex-parte.

Valmiki leaders Piara Lal Anjan of Valmiki Dharam Samaj, Kamal Nahar, Baba Malkiat Nath, head of Dhunna Sahib at Bhagwan Valmiki temple in Ramtirath and others were present during the meeting. Leaders of Valmiki organisations demanded that a representative of the community must be made member of the censor board so that no objectionable content against the community could be telecast in future.

The serial has reportedly portrayed Maharishi Valmiki in negative light. The Valmiki community claims that it hurt their religious sentiments. The channel airing the serial has been asked to respond within 15 days
