Dr Shikhil Uppal, neurosurgeon at Uppal Neuro Hospital, recently presented his research paper titled 'Aneurysm Coiling Under Local Anesthesia: Myth or Reality' at the World Congress of Neurosurgery (WFNS 2025) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from December 1 to 5.

Dr Uppal said that aneurysm coiling without general anaesthesia is a modern, minimally invasive technique in which a dangerous brain aneurysm is treated without open surgery. In this procedure, thin catheters are used to deliver coils directly into the blood vessel inside the brain, filling the bulged area and significantly reducing the risk of rupture. This is considered safe for patients, less painful and is known for faster recovery, he said.

The global conference witnessed participation from renowned neurosurgeons from across the world, who discussed cutting-edge research and advancements in the field of neurosurgery. It was a moment of pride for him, said Dr Uppal.
