Clash among jail inmates over petty issue, one hurt

AMRITSAR: An argument over a petty issue turned into a clash, leaving a jail inmate injured, here yesterday.

An argument over a petty issue turned into a clash, leaving a jail inmate injured, here yesterday. The jail authorities have lodged a complaint against three inmates, who have been booked.

The injured has been identified as Sahib, alias Gaggu, of Mohkampura. He was admitted to the Jallianwala Bagh Memorial Civil Hospital for treatment.

Those booked have been identified as Jagbir Singh, alias Pehalwan, of Dassuwal village in Tarn Taran, Deepak Kumar of Lehal village in Dhariwal, Sawan Singh, aka Gullu, alias Gaurav Singh, of Nehru Colony, located on Majitha road. A case under Section 323 of the IPC (voluntarily causing hurt) and 42 and 52 of the Prisoners Act was registered against them at the Gate Hakima police station.

According to jail authorities, Sahil had a verbal duel with Jagbir Singh and his supporters over bathing that soon took ugly turn when they attacked Sahil. After the clash, the jail authorities found a mobile phone with a battery and SIM card from the barracks of the accused.

The police said that they were trying to ascertain how did the accused managed to sneak the mobile phone and other prohibited material inside the high security jail.

Meanwhile, the jail authorities also confiscated three mobile chargers, a data cable and six packets of cigarette which were thrown from outside the jail premises by unknown persons. A separate case under Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisoner Act was registered.
