Committee formed to check quality of BRTS bridge

AMRITSAR: After an inspection of the BRTS flyover at Verka Chowk by Lok Sabha member Gurjeet Singh Aujla on Sunday evening, PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla has constituted a committee to investigate the condition of the bridge and check the quality of the material used.

After an inspection of the BRTS flyover at Verka Chowk by Lok Sabha member Gurjeet Singh Aujla on Sunday evening, PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla has constituted a committee to investigate the condition of the bridge and check the quality of the material used.

Aujla had said that within a year of the construction, the bridge had started showing signs of damage due to poor quality of the work. The MP said he had informed the minister about the condition of the bridge. "I have received a reply on email and the minister has taken the matter seriously,” said Aujla.

The investigation team includes PWD Superintending Engineer (SE), Patiala, JS Mann; Deputy Director, Research Lab, Patiala, Gagandeep Singh; Construction SE, Amritsar Circle, DV Goel; and NHAI PWD SE NR Goel.

The team visited the site of the bridge and took stock of the damage. The team also met the MP and briefed him about the damage. Aujla said that the team took samples, photos and collected the technical data to assess the damage and consequences.

Aujla said that nobody should be spared for playing with the safety and security of the public. All the companies, vendors, officials involved should be penalised and blacklisted, he demaned.
