A national conference on “Women, Technology and Tradition: Harmonising Heritage with Progress” was hosted by Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology, Amritsar (KCET), to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The conference commenced with the recitation of ‘Shabad’ followed by the welcoming of chief guest Dr Pamita Awasthi, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, NIT Hamirpur. In her address, Dr Awasthi said that women have continuously broken barriers in technology, engineering and finance, demonstrating their ability to balance tradition with progress. She said empowerment came with education and reflected in the thoughts of the youth.

Fifty research papers from different universities and colleges like the Chief Khalsa Diwan, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar, Global Group of Institutes, Amritsar Group of Colleges, Manipal University, Jaipur and Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology, were presented.

Dr Manju Bala, in her address, emphasised upon the role of women in shaping families, communities and civilisations. She noted that women’s unwavering commitment ensured that future generations inherit a world with greater opportunities and equality.

The keynote speaker, Harleen Kaur, highlighted the historical journey of Indian feminism, emphasising on women’s struggles and achievements in politics, education and employment. Major challenges such as gender-based violence, discrimination and wage disparity were discussed, along with the progress made in bridging these gaps.

Dedication Distinction Awards 2025 were awarded to various women in recognition of their selfless service during the valedictory function.

The best oral presentation was awarded to the paper titled, “Leading the Way Forward”, presented by Gursahiba Kaur, Pooja Sharma and Dr Jasleen Kaur. The conference concluded with all participants taking a pledge to uphold the values of equality, empowerment and progress.
